Child Safety for Window Blinds

A typical window blind has pull cords in order to use it. But, in the late 2000's, the window covering industry issued a recall to repair all window coverings to prevent strangulation to young children. This includes all window coverings that had pull cords that can form a loop.

There are several ways in order to prevent this kind of incidents. Blinds and shades today are much safer and their cords are harder to get tangled. Many

uses motorized blinds which is much more expensive than the manually operated ones, but is much safer because it has no pulling cords. When considering window blinds and shades, here are some guidelines for your child’s safety:

  1. Move all cribs, toys, and furniture away from pulling cords.

  2. Looping cords should be tied down with hold downs.

  3. Keep cords out of reach of children.
